How micro-needling can help improve the complexion

Micro-needling slows down the ageing process. It helps in successfully reversing the appearance of aged and saggy skin to look smooth and youthful. There are many benefits of micro-needling on the face. Acne can be removed, and scarring and oil production can be reduced.

Micro-needling involves making small incisions in the skin with the help of a surgical pen with ten or more micro-needles. These needles are pierced in the skin thousands of times in a few seconds. The piercing is done on the epidermis or upper layer of the skin.

While this may seem terrifying, it is a healing process that helps in the formation of collagen and elastin on the surface. Clinics like Cosmedica further help to make the skin smooth and improve complexion.

Benefits of micro-needling

There are many benefits of micro-needling:

· Improvement in skin texture and quality

Micro-needling is a process that takes approximately one hour. Some parts of your face may bleed a little, but this is considered a good sign. Bleeding may also occur after one or 1.5 days post the procedure. You will find a marked improvement in the smoothness and texture of the skin.

Bleeding occurs because of the formation of new collagen and removal of the older one. The pinprick needles stimulate blood vessels. Degradation of collagen starts after the age of 30 and micro-needling stops or slows down this process. Redness also might occur on the skin, but will eventually pass as the skin heals itself.

· Reduction of scarring and pockmarks

Needling reduces acne scars, which are quite challenging to treat. If you find any blemishes on your face, it usually means that the body is going through a process of fibrosis. When healing begins due to fibrosis, all the skin cells and tissues under the skin start to stick together. This healing and regeneration of skin tissues start diminishing pockmarks and acne scars. The healing improves skin quality to such an extent that blemishes and acne marks disappear and give way to perfect baby-soft skin.

Needling smoothens the skin, and it starts looking good again. If the scars are small, micro-needling shows the best results. However, for large scars, stitching is needed as micro-needling is insufficient.

· Reduction in blackheads

You may have blackheads on your skin, which can be due to PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) or hormonal acne. Since there are thousands of needles pricking your skin simultaneously, blackheads are removed after the process. You might feel the eruption of small pores, but these also heal quickly and disappear. Blackhead removal is not long-lasting, and you may need micro-needling after a month. After the completion of the process, you can use a vitamin C serum and aftercare creams to reduce the pores caused due to healing of blackheads. Removal of blackheads improves the texture of the skin and results in a blemish-free complexion.

· Treatment of acne and cystic acne

Micro-needling not only removes acne but also stops its formation. Acne formation stops because of a reduction in sebum production. A decline in oil production also reduces blackheads. Micro-needling decreases the quantity of sebum produced, and as a result, reduces the formation of acne marks. While micro-needling does not directly affect acne, the side-effect is a visible and immediate reduction in acne. If you suffer from acne and cystic acne due to excess sebum production, you should try this as it removes not only acne but also scars and other defects in the skin.

· Exfoliation of skin

Disruption of epidermis results in skin exfoliation. Micro-needling helps tease the upper surface of the epidermis (stratum). This disruption or teasing is essential for the removal of dead skin cells stuck on the epidermis. The skin starts looking smooth and fresh again after the removal of dead cells.

· Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles

Micro-needling helps in the removal of fine lines and wrinkles. This process helps you look younger as fine lines and wrinkles are removed. The upper level of the dermis is healed and repaired due to the pricking action of the needles. This process also stimulates collagen, which helps in the healing of the skin. Besides this, the micro-trauma caused by micro-needling leads to the stimulation of blood vessels which supply oxygen and other nutrients to the dermis. All these things together help reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

You can avail micro-needling at regular intervals to slow down ageing and remove fine lines and wrinkles from the skin and improve your complexion.
