A VERY BRIEF BACKGROUND TO HEALTH KINESIOLOGY

Origins The Chinese developed an holistic understanding of health some 3000 years ago (and acupuncture still uses the energy pathways called meridians). Research in the 1940s to 1960s explored diagnosis through muscle-testing and the relationship between muscles, organs and energy meridians. Health Kinesiology grew from research by Canadian Jimmy Scott in 1970s. It is a form of bio-feedback analysis and uses energy corrections to help the recovery process.
The types of kinesiology There are several branches of kinesiology in UK, all based on muscle-testing to analyse imbalances in the body's health and energy flow (illness and syptoms) and action to rebalance the body and stimulate the body's natural recovery processes.
Overall regulation is provided by The Kinesiology Federation, affiliated to the BCMA (The British Complementary Medicine Association)
Health Kinesiology Health Kinesiology is the most succesful and the fastest growing of the various kinesiologies in UK, with 150 registered therapists. It attracts therapists from other disciplines as well as many nurses, teachers and others from the caring professions, with an interest in health matters and a motivation to help others. HK UK runs an established and comprehensive training and testing programme for all therapists.
A typical HK session The initial session includes a comprehensive collection of facts on lifestyle, diet, current symptoms and medications and takes ca. 90 minutes. Later therapy sessions take 1 hour. Typical cost per session varies between therapists but is around £30 per hour (City centre locations cost more). Clients may need several sessions depending on their particular problems, state of health and other factors.
Therapists listed on the web site There are 150 HK therapists listed. Most are fully-trained and qualified Registered Practitioners (RPs). Some also have individual membership of the Kinesiology Federation (KFRPs). We also list a few student practitoners (often established therapists who are still training in HK to add this to their other tharapies).
HKI=Health Kinesiology Initiative HK UK has no full-time staff. All coordination and support activity for HK UK is provided by a small team of volunteers under the name HKI. We give our time and energy freely because we believe in HK and want the therapy to grow so that our therapists can help more people recover their health and wellbeing.
